Over the past 75 years, hundreds of outstanding men and women have worked as lifeguards for the City of San Clemente - protecting swimmers from the dangers of the ocean. During this time, over 75,000 people have been rescued or assisted from distress in the ocean – thanks to the dedication and commitment of these lifeguards.

Working as an ocean lifeguard has always been more than just a job – especially at a beach as busy as San Clemente’s. For many, this was the first job where employees were given such a large responsibility – responsibility not only for assisting those in need, but also for recognizing and preventing trouble before it began.

Of course, it has not been all work. Many close friendships were formed and experiences were shared that makes working as a lifeguard more of a fraternity than simply a job. Likewise, many lifeguards went on to achieve success and fame in other professions, using some of the skills they learned here. Some of these include: World famous surfers and filmmakers, doctors, police and fire officers, lawyers, teachers, and dentists. Others stayed on and made a career out of saving lives in the ocean. Whatever path they took, the fine men and women who have been a part of San Clemente’s history over the years deserve to be recognized for their outstanding contribution to San Clemente and the public.

The 75th Anniversary/Reunion party was a chance to laugh, reminisce, be recognized and reacquainted with friends and former co-workers who you may have lost touch with. We hope that you enjoyed this celebration in your honor.

Thank you.
